Celina Gomez, Masters student in the Horticulture Department placed first in the student competition at the Southern Region International Plant Producers (formerly Propagators) Society (SR IPPS) meeting in Biloxi, MS in late October.
The title of Celina's paper was: "Rooting of three ornamental plants in eight propagation substrates". Her paper will be published in the IPPS Proceedings. Eight students submitted papers and two, including Celina's, was then selected to give an oral presentation at the conference. To recognize her efforts the society gave her a $500 travel grant, waved her conference registration, and awarded her $1,000 for her first prize selection.
