General areas of interest:

Vegetable Crop Production and Cultivar Evaluation

Teaching:

Officially 0% of my time is devoted to teaching. I do lectures by invitation in several classes including Vegetable Crop Production and Home Horticulture. I also teach through the graduate education program of our department.

Major Accomplishments:

My major accomplishment in the past 5 years has been in helping to further the fresh market vegetable industry in Arkansas. This has been accomplished by working with county agents and directly with producers. Over 90% of the tomato industry and more than 50% of the melon industry are grown using plasticulture and drip irrigation. Marketing opportunities have expanded in the state, and direct assistance to communities has resulted in 5 new farmer's markets. In addition growers and consumers have benefited from publications on vegetable production. The book MP128 Vegetable gardening in Arkansas is used by growers, gardeners, and as a text for college courses.

Research:

About 25% of the position are devoted to research. Research area is focused in the area of vegetable crop production and cultivar evaluation. Much of the research effort is focused in advising graduate students.
