Education:

General areas of interest:

Improvement of fruit cultivars is the major area of focus, with an array of crops included in the breeding effort. Additionally the patenting of new cultivars, licensing of propagators, and management of the fruit cultivar proprietary program is a substantial job responsibility. Inclusion of undergraduate and graduate students in research is also a focus area.

Teaching:

Instruction in the areas of fruit production and plant breeding is conducted. Additionally advising of undergraduate and graduate students is an important part of teaching duties. Service in the College's Honors Program is provided, including serving as faculty editor of the College's undergraduate research journal Discovery. Teaching appointment is approximately 20%.

Research:

Fruit breeding is conducted on blackberries, grapes, blueberries, and peaches/nectarines. Classical breeding for cultivar development is the major emphasis. Supporting studies on breeding methodology and related areas is are also underway. Research appointment is approximately 65%.
