General areas of interest:
Ornamental horticulture, with special interest in landscape management, contracting and design, and arboriculture.
Administrative Duties:
As Department Head and Extension Section Leader, I am responsible for providing administrative leadership to the statewide horticulture teaching, research, and extension programs and to coordinating development and extramural funding efforts. I interact with and serve as liaison to professional and trade organizations, governmental agencies, industry groups, and off-campus cooperating programs.
Research:
Areas of research: Ornamental horticulture, with special interest in landscape management, contracting and design, arboriculture, plant establishment, reclamation of drastically disturbed sites.
Major Accomplishments:
- Development and initiation of certification program for landscape technicians into Hawaii that has come to fruition through work by the industry since my leaving and will be self-sustaining.
- Publication and revision of text, Professional Landscape Management.
- Transition to administration at the department level.
- Successful research and extension programs in landscape horticulture.
