Turfgrass Science

Teaching:

Teach the laboratory portion of introductory turfgrass management in "Commercial and Residential Turfgrass Management". This course is primarily geared towards TURF majors and is composed of laboratory exercises designed to give the students hands on experiences that they will utilize upon entering the turfgrass industry. "Rootzone Management" is geared towards upper level undergraduate students and graduate students. This course covers, in detail, rootzone construction for golf courses and athletic fields, the effects of soil physical properties on turfgrass management, and turfgrass nutrition and fertility.

Major Accomplishments:

Developed statistical analysis and reporting techniques for subjective rating data that are independent of the rating scale. Developed digital image analysis techniques to quantify turfgrass cover and turfgrass color.

Research:

Initiated a turfgrass research program to improve the functional and aesthetic quality of turfgrass through the refinement of cultural practices, especially those pertaining to soil management.
