General areas of interest:
Selection and evaluation of woody landscape plants for Arkansas and elsewhere. Homepage: Woody Landscape Plants.
Teaching:
My teaching responsibilities include woody plant material courses along with undergraduate special problems classes. The special problems classes are primarily for undergraduates who wish to do an independent research project under my direction.
Major Accomplishments:
Research: Identifying and characterizing a 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) synthase gene specific to petunia pollen; initiating a breeding program to develop sterile Buddleja hybrids
Teaching: Developing a web site for my woody landscape plant materials classes and revamping the direction of these two courses.
Research:
- Ornamental plant selection and evaluation
- Ornamental plant breeding (primarily in the genus Buddleja)
- Plant micropropagation
- Cultivar identification of woody ornamental plants using DNA-based technologies
